Monero (XMR) Now Accepted at Fortnite Merchandise Store with GloBee

As Monero (XMR) representatives announced on the first day of 2019, Fortnite players will be able to use XMR as one of alternative payment methods at one of the merchandise stores that supports the game.

The official Fortnite merchandise store, Retail Row, is now accepting Monero-based payments through the cryptocurrency payment service called GloBee.

GloBee supports more than a single cryptocurrency, also offering support for Ripple’s XRP, Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Lightning Network, Decred (DCR), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Monero (XMR).

However, only Monero will get to see a potentially increased adoption through Retail Row.

Monero (XMR) Available in an Official Fortnite Merch Store

As Monero announced that XMR exclusively became the only cryptocurrency available through the cryptocurrency service GloBee on Retail Row and although many Twitter and Reddit users are wondering why XMR became the only crypto available at Fortnite official merch store, enhanced privacy might be the answer.

As stated by GloBee on their official website where the service offers payment gateway for the supported digital assets, Monero was specifically described as a currency that offers completely private transactions.

If we go back to October 2018 when Malwarebytes, a cybersecurity company, discovered that crypto scammers were actually targeting Fortnite players in order to track their Bitcoin addresses, which was done through implementing malicious codes into download data where the players were promised to get free online version of Fortnite for Android operative systems.

The initial investigation conducted by Malwarebytes also indicated that in-game currency called V-Bucks contained malware packages as well.

However, despite the fact that Monero represents one of top cryptos and also one of the top privacy coins in the cryptocurrency market, a research made by Palo Alto Networks, network and enterprise security firm back in June shows that the total of 5% XMR mining is related to cryptojacking activities, which means that over 175 million dollars’ worth of Monero was mined through malware mining.

The community behind Monero and XMR even started an initiative to help users who believe they have become victims of cryptojacking or malware mining at any point, while the official Monero team stated that XMR is not directly involved in malware mining and cryptojacking activities.

Regardless of 51% attack attacks and vulnerabilities in Monero network, the team has announced updated fixes to the spotted bugs, claiming that the platform is now free of previous vulnerabilities.

Project Coral Reef and Monero Adoption

Following after the original announcement on Reddit on January 1st, 2019, some redditors implied that the latest addition of XMR through GloBee on Retail Row might be a part of Project Coral Reef, which is a Monero-based campaign focused on the adoption of XMR as an alternative currency and method of payment.

By far, as described on the official Project Coral Reef page, XMR became available across 50 major online retail stores, while at some merchandise stores like Slayer and Motorhead merch stores you can get 15% discount when using Monero as your payment method at the checkout.
